The Spruce Hole Yurt is located in Colorado on the Rio Grande National Forest near La Manga Pass in the South San Juan Mountains. The trailhead to the Yurt is a 2 1/2 hour drive from Santa Fe, New Mexico and a one hour drive from Alamosa, Colorado.

From Chama, NM:
Take Highway 17 north out of Chama for 20 miles. Look for the Spruce Hole road sign on your right side and park off the highway. The trail is on the south side of the road and is marked with blue diamonds. The yurt is 2 1/2 miles from the highway.

From Antonito, CO:
Take Highway 17 west out of Antonito for 28 miles. Look for the Spruce Hole sign on your right side and park across the road from the sign. The trail is on the south side of the road and is marked with blue diamonds. The yurt is 2 1/2 miles from the highway.

In 2024, Spruce Hole Yurt Open for SUMMER, Fall and Winter!

Yes, it's true! We are finally allowed to rent the yurt in the warmer months! Keep an eye on our calendar as we open up dates for booking. We'll have some closed dates so that we can repair and make improvements to the yurt. Plus we plan to keep the yurt closed during the spring, to avoid mud season and give the animals a break from us humans.

Spruce Hole Yurt is a perfect place for your next mountain biking adventure, family fun trip, day hike or astronomy viewing party (there's a telescope at the yurt, and dark skies). Mountain bikers will love the 4WD roads to the south, that can take you to Osier and even to the edge of the Cruces Basin Wilderness area, and back north through Apache Canyon. You'll need to look at both the Rio Grande National Forest and the Carson National Forest to map out your biking adventure. Hikers can hike near the yurt, or take a short drive to other trails in the area, including the Continental Divide trail.

When planning your summer adventure at the yurt, keep in mind that you'll need to provide your own water and sleeping bag or bedding, and pillows. Consider the yurt a "glamping" experience - rustic but comfortable! The yurt has beds for 6 people (a queen, double and 2 single beds); a kitchen with a propane stovetop w/3 burners, kitchen supplies w/pots, pans, dishes & silverware; a wood stove; and solar lights.
